FAQ - About Makhana Quality & Grading

Mithila Makhana

“Suta” is the traditional unit of measurement for Makhana diameter (1 Suta ≈ 3.175 mm). We grade our stock as:

  • 7+ Suta: Super Jumbo (Export Grade)

  • 6 Suta: Bold/Premium (Standard for high-end retail)

  • 5 Suta: Medium/Standard (Common commercial grade)

  • 4 Suta & below: Churri/Murra (Used for flour or powder)

Look for these four markers:

  • Color: Natural creamy white (not bleached stark white).

  • Crunch: Should snap immediately when squeezed (The “Snap Test”).

  • Black Caps: Minimal residue of the hard black shell (less than 2%).

  • Uniformity: Consistent sizing within the bag (e.g., 95% 6 Suta pops).

Yes. Our produce is authentic Mithila Makhana, which has been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag. This ensures the unique nutritional profile and traditional popping quality exclusive to the Mithila region.
